Making space for young futures

Last term, our brilliant Philanthropy Officer, Charlotte, stepped into a new role, volunteering as a coach on our Year 10 programme alongside our wonderful partners at Axis Capital.

Charlotte joined the Axis Capital volunteer cohort to mentor Year 10 students from Nower Hill High School supporting them to explore their skills, values and ambitions, and to reflect on the pathways and careers open to them.

Reflecting on her experience, Charlotte shared:

“Volunteering as a coach at Future Frontiers has been an incredible experience. Through conversations about pupils’ goals, challenges, and next steps, I saw first-hand how powerful it can be to give young people the time and space to reflect and build confidence in themselves.

I had the opportunity to coach two pupils through the programme. In the first session, both were nervous and unsure about their future, however by the end of the four weeks, one of the pupils reflected:

“I didn’t think much about my future at the start, but now I realise I have so many opportunities and I can go into many fields with the things that I have learnt about myself”

This was a strong reminder that giving young people room to think and listening to their questions allows them to see their future and themselves more clearly. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to volunteer on the programme."

Experiences like Charlotte’s are a powerful reminder of the value of volunteering, not just in sharing knowledge, but in listening, encouraging and creating space for young people to grow.

Thank you to Axis Capital and all our volunteers for making this programme possible. 💙
